Broken DA 21mm

I hope this is the right place to post.

I can't feel too bad (not) since in over 40 years I have never dropped a lens but my DA 21mm fell to the floor and is now practically in two pieces. My question is if there is any preference on this forum for repair locations that Pentax lists on the Imaging website? Or is there another place to recommend (I live in NE Ohio). I would much rather send it to a place that perhaps 'specializes' in repairing lenses. Thanks.

IAI

I went with the closest Pentax recommended shop.

Mr. Walker,

United Camera is proud of our service and the opportunity to earn your business. Weíve been providing ďa better repair experienceĒ for more than 40 years and we make the repair experience as easy as possible for you. Dedicated coworkers and efficient processes ensure most repairs are completed within 3-4 days. Our work is guaranteed and if we donít get it right the first time, the repair is free.

Customer Description of problem:

"I dropped the lens. The focus ring is partly separated. There is a slight 'rattle' when shaken. The aperature blades seem to function normally. There is no focus when mounted on the camera. The lens is fairly new; it would be a shame if I destroyed it."

The estimated fee for this type of repair is:

$194.00- Including a shipping kit that includes everything you need to box up your unit and send it in for repair (box, bubble wrap, prepaid UPS shipping label). Just take it to your local UPS drop off location to ship. Respond to this email with your address and we will mail your kit today

OR

$184.00 -If you donít want to use our shipping kit. Include this email when you box your unit up and send it to us at the address at the bottom of the email using your preferred shipper

Upon inspection, if the unit is in need of additional repair, we will contact you for a re-estimate. Note: Illinois residents will be charged applicable sales tax.

The average time for this repair is 4-5 business days.

Please include a copy of this estimate, as your quote, in the box. In addition, please remove any accessories such as the camera case, batteries, charger, memory card and cables prior to shipping.

Upon receiving the unit, United Camera will contact you to verify repair fee and obtain your authorization and credit card to proceed.

Address to ship your unit:

United Camera
Attn: Repair Dept.
1062 Tower Lane
Bensenville, IL 60106

I have read about a gentleman called Eric here that repairs lenses. I have never had and occasion to seek his help, but from reading here - he would be the first one I would seek. I would either call or email him. He may be able to help..

I checked his site before. He doesn't advert digital cameras and the DA leneses are not on his listing. United was very responsive and I needed the lens soon.
