Vintage Bazooka

Thought there might be some folks who salivate over lenses that could double as artillery pieces with only minor modification.

SMC 135-600

I halfway wish I had the money to bid on it.

How exactly do you take that out on the streets or take it anywhere in the case without being stopped, questioned, detained? lol

I'm more curious how you take it out on the streets without a refrigerator dolly to cart it around on.

I get the strangest looks when I take out even as something as innocent as a Samsung Gx-1L and a small standard prime.

I get told to put my camera away in the subway cause I can't take photos of the coloured light signals wizzing by.

I get approached by transit special constables while taking photos in the evening on a bus platform.(w/ GX-1L and kit lens)

This is Toronto, Canada. I can only imagine worse in the United States. The most photos I've taken recently have actually been inside the camera store where I test out lenses. (Kinda ironic..photographing..photographic devices..)

Not a bad price for that lens (roughly $320 US), but no international shipping for those of us outside Japan. Anyway, I always have a big, inexpensive, lens like this sitting around for casual pictures at the beach, around town, or whatever. My current one is a Phoenix 100-500mm f:5.6-8 zoom measuring nearly 33cm (13 inches) long when fully extended (38cm/15 inches with lens hood). Circumference measures about 24cm (9.5 inches). The lens with all-metal body weighs well over a kg (2.2 pounds). Image quality is nothing to get overly excited about, but it's fun to play around with nonetheless.

I've never been stopped or questioned by anyone, police or others, when using such lenses. However, people do look just because large lenses like this are somewhat unusual.

There are still 6 days left in the auction, with no BIN option. I suspect it will see lots of last minute activity. I believe the lens weighs somewhere around 4kg.

A 1.7x auto-focus converter went for about $140 a few days ago. I wish I had grabbed it up and turned it into $300 on eBay.

Yeah, too bad they won't take international bids. I'd bid for this one. Then if I got it I'd have GODZILLA stenciled on the side. Step aside BIGMA! LOL

As far as the Japanese are concerned, there are two internets; one for them and one for everybody else.

I sometimes get this image of the entire population lining the shores, holding hands in a big circle, and every last one of them facing inland.

Can't speak for everybody else, but I'm self-taught. Living in Japan, it sort of comes in handy.
