Rivers.

IF you get a good copy and IF it works, I think this is a very fine zoom lens.
Combined with DxO, you get great results.

the 16-50 is my go-to lens, and consistently delivers exactly what I want - though it's had the obligatory warranty repair, the photos keep my regrets in check.

HMCS Haida

I’ve always be fascinated by warships and Jer’s shots of the battleship Texas a while back inspired me. I had some free time today so I took the DA* 16~50/2.8 drove to Hamilton to take at look at HMCS Haida billed as “Canada’s most famous warship.” Wouldn’t be much more than a lifeboat on the Texas but she saw a lot of action.

Twin 4" guns

40mm Bofors Guns

3" 50 Calibre Gun

Torpedo Tubes

From the stern

Radio Room

Crew Quarters - Not much changed since Nelson's day

It is docked in Hamilton Harbour and is a National Historic Site. Haida was commissioned in 1943 saw a lot of action in WWII and Korea. Her battle honours include: Arctic 1943-45, English Channel 1944, Normandy 1944, Biscay 1944 and Korea 1952-53. Haida was a Tribal Class destroyer which displaced 3,000 tons fully loaded. She is 377 feet in length with a beam of 37.5 feet. Top speed 36.5 knots with 18 officers and a crew of 230 men. Main armament was 4-4 inch HA/LA guns, 2-3 inch 50 calibre AA, 4 – 40mm Bofors guns, 4 – 21 inch torpedoes and 2 squid antisubmarine mortars.

For the curious see the following site:

HMCS HAIDA - Intro

Inside or out I was pretty pleased with the performance of this lens. Great focal length for tight quarters, very sharp, great colours and it makes things look better than they do in real life.

Thank you.. No. Haven't been there in about 15 years (even though it's less than 5 miles away). They are from a place called Becks Mill in (or near) Salem Indiana. Was in Louisville a few weeks ago and this was a day trip for us.

More here but those are probably the best with the 16-50.

I prefocused this shot but didn't totally get it. I still like it though, and it really shows off the colour:
Wow... This shot has me sold....

Back to the beach this weekend!
Funny, these pics were taken at 31mm... I wonder if that's a Pentax inside joke?

At 50 mm f/4.5. Just an impromptu mug shot for a story I was covering.

I wanted to post this one in particular because I don't use the DA*16-50 at 50 mm nearly enough; which is silly, because it always surprises me how well it performs at this focal length.
