The DA* 16-50/2.8 is my 'tourist" lens. It is with me on all such excursions. Here's a couple from a recent day trip the visit HMCS Haida in Hamilton Ontario.

Twin 4" guns

Radio Room

Crew Quarters - Not much changed from Nelson's day

I have no other lens in my kit which could have handled this range of outside and inside challenges as well.

I'm liking this new lens a lot.

Pal,

Just curious. Is there any lens which wouldn't produce flare under these conditions? I doubt it. I seldom shoot towards the sun in any case. Still, thanks for making us aware.

Tom G

I don't mind shooting against the sun.

To be clear: this is with the DA*16-50

No. I didn't use any filter
You mean the * isn't a flare sign?

Wrong thread--there are plenty of other threads for bashing the 16-50.

Looks like a bit of sea spray got on your front element at some point there?

Here's a random pic from mine, yes some flare, but not that bad. Doesn't everybody shoot air shows at 16mm?

Here's where they flew right into the sun.

I was shooting something else and just pointed the camera up, so these were at f/5 1/5000 and 1/3200 respectively

16-50 is a very nice lens

Here are a few from my time on vacation.

Couple from Ft. Casey

Crabbin'!

The girl got a hold of the camera.

Love the lens, I do believe there needs to be more love for this glass.

Couple more from the Oregon Coast

Just thought I would add a few from the other day.

Just a quick comment about lens flare: I don't really find the DA *16-50 to particularly prone to flare. You can make it flare in certain situations, but without a filter and with the hood on, it really does pretty well in that regard.

It's not the best lens for flare resistance, but you don't have to have the lens out of the frame. I already posted this image earlier in this thread:

And here's another one:

I feel as though some people's copies have much worse lens flare issues than others.

I think it has more to do with shooting aperture. At wider aperture much of the flare is simply just expressed as a general reduction of contrast. If you shoot at F:11 or smaller the flare comes into "focus" and is highly disturbing.
