Just got the lens yesterday, 2 f/2.8 shots, one at 50mm, the other 16mm. No PP except resizing.

I love how much nicer the bokeh is on this than the 16-45.

Litterally this is the only photo I have, which was the test shot of the lens the day I bought it. This was more of a bokeh test than anything.

Oh well, I will have plenty of time to shoot with it soon... Oregon and Washington should give me a great chance to really bring out the awesome in this lens.

Blimey some stunning shots showing the versatility of this lens.
Major LBA for me now as I was considering the Tamron 17-50 as a replacement for my Sigma 17-70 at some stage......now I gotta figure out if its this OR a DA 35 ltd in my future! Darn wish I could get both!
More shots please to drive me insane!

Sorry to spoil the fun but here is what it can't do; shooting into the sun

. This lens is the most flareprone optics I've ever used

. You need to have the sun way out of the frame. I don't think it deserves the (*) designation.......

No. I didn't use any filter

Thanks, Ash. I put my cash into these DA* lenses to use them where I can't use other lenses. Wide open for sure

I stop down when I can, but these lenses come through at 2.8!

Just curious. Is there any lens which wouldn't produce flare under these conditions? I doubt it. I seldom shoot towards the sun in any case. Still, thanks for making us aware.

I will second the "not worth a star" rating, but for CA. Attached full and 100% crop. Sure it's reasonably sharp but look at all that purple. Branches against the sun are forgivable, but bee antenna against white flowers?

No. I didn't use any filter

That could be caused by dust on/inside/on the back of the lens. I haven't seen flares on this back on a MC lens.

I'm with Hangu. My lens has no such behavior. That seems like highly irregular flare.

I just compared my Tamron SP 17-50 and the Pentax DA* 16-50, and both lenses have similar, minimal flare under my test conditions (150W focused Halogen light source). I could accentuate the flare by overexposing by +2ev.

Nearly all lenses can be affected by the dreaded purple fringe. Usually easily removed with your favourite image processing program!
