One interesting thing I've noticed. Things that cause people to turn their heads toward a photographer in order:

1. Focus confirm beep
2. Shutter sound
3. Focus sound

The main exception to this being when your lens hunts like ZZZnnnnzzzzZZZnnnnzzzZZZZZZnnnn. That will get people's attention pretty quick.

Another note, if you turn the focus confirmation beep off with the K-7 and use either SDM or manual focus it is about as close to silent as a camera with a shutter can get.

In any case, the focus sound is *way* quieter than the shutter. Well, it might be close on a K-7.
