Thanks all for the pictures.
I considered in the past to buy this lens, but now I am a bit dissapointed. I saw very few pictures here that are sharp enough for my taste. In fact, most of them are average, except for the colors. Few of them I really like, like those on the first page of the thread, and last photos posted on last.
I think that it can't be compared to a prime lens, but it probably is a very good compromise.
Whenever I judge a lens by the pictures I see taken by others, I almost never count the bad images I see. If I see images like Iceemn's, than that tells me the lens is capable of incredible shots.... the rest is on the photographer.

Look at the images at the top of the last page by Iceemn.... if these are not pleasing to you than I honestly can't imagine what is.

FWIW, I find the DA* 50-135 to be a step better than its little brother the DA* 16-50 and more or less the equal of the DA Limiteds. Your mileage may vary.

I agree with the first half completely. And I would probably agree with the second part, but I've never use any Limiteds, so I can't say.

Maligned? Some people had SDM failures but the consensus is that it is a great piece of glass. Mine never failed and I have it for two years. Love this lens.
Here are some samples. Shots taken at the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia. The entire album contains 123 shots all taken with DA*50-135, here is the link:

philbaum: 63mm, 1/60, f2.8, iso100. Took this 18 months ago when i first got the lens. Surprised that its this good considering the parameters.

Its quality across the entire optical range, always amazed me. Another grand thing about it, when its raining, the hood is long enough to keep droplets off the lens. Thats no small thing, as droplets on the optical lens can spoil a lot of pictures.
That is a great shot Phil. Yes, I've gotten a droplet on a lens or two from time to time and it sure can ruin a shot--very tough to clone out Perhpas we need water-droplet-on-the-lens detection in the next body.

I know that I posted this shot elsewhere, but I had to put it in here as a great ad for the 50-135!
