Obscenely over priced and too sloooooow, especially for that kind of money…

Didn't read the responses from everyone, but the Sigma 70 is - hands down - without a shadow of a doubt - the sharpest lens I've ever used and have ever seen.

Dear All,

I am currently looking for the sharpest lens that can be mounted on a Pentax DSLR. There's no restrictions on what kind of lens as long as it is a DSLR pentax mount.

Prime or zoom, manual or auto focus, old or new, third party or genuine will do.

Admin if you could help me on the voting/counting.... would highly appreciate it.

Here's what i think for now since i don't have any sharp enough lens (for now).
(Currently own F 35-105mm, DA-L 18-55mm kit, M 50 f2)

1) Sigma 70 f2.8
2) Tamron 90mm f2.8
3) M 75-150 f4

If you can attached also sample pics from your lenses, would be great.
Here it is-

On a side note, I wish Klaus would get a K20 and do his tests on Photozone with that. I just feel like it would separate the lenses out a little better, with the higher megapixel sensor. There are a lot of lenses that can out resolve the K10, but would struggle more with the K20.

Of the lenses I own, the DA 35 limited is definitely the sharpest.

Sharpest wide open? For what use?

These is no simple answer to this question, mainly because no one has experience with all Pentax lenses...

Generally speaking the limiteds and the macros will be the sharpest. from my humble experience the FA 50 macro is the sharpest I've used, and I have a hard time imagining anything sharper. But that doesn't mean no lens IS sharper.

If you asked "what lens is the sharpest in your bag" then answers would have more meaning. As it is, you'll get a sample of the most used lenses.

I wish the FA* 300mm f2.8 I had was as sharp as yours must be because mine was quite soft.

From Pentax it is the F/FA 50mm 2.8 Macro
Or the A 50/2.8 Macro. Makes my eyes bleed.

.
Ugh.

I tried for as long as I could to not open this picture because I've been flirting with buying the FA43 for a while now. This just put me over the edge...

Now I gotta go buy it. Thanks

I think you should take responsibiltiy for what you're done and sponsor the purchase

Not sure what the point of the question is, but I'd also register the thought that this really not a meaningful question. Other than the fact that the answer depends on what aperture you will be using as well as whether you are more concerned with center or corners, it's also the case that the differences between the sharpest couple of dozen with be insignificant - impossible to see in real life shooting situations. And of course, focal length *does* matter in the real world.

But FWIW, among currently available lenses, based on Photozone numbers, samples I've seen, and opinions of the people who own the lens, my vote goes to the FA43 for center sharpness. at peak aperture. Of the lenses I have personal experience with (DA14, DA15, Zenitar 16, DA21, Sigma 24/2.8, M28/2.8, DA40, M/A50/1.7, A50/2, DA70, FA77, M100/2.8, M135/3.5, M200/4, DA18-55, DA18-55II, DA50-200, and a couple of offbrand 28's & 135's), the DA15 is the sharpest in the center at any aperture, but the DA40 or DA70 probably win for corners at their peak apertures.

Lol I wish I was B Gates and give FA 43 like cookies

My copy is on the way from Australia but my problem now is where to find a frog like that

BTW the user pcarfan is to blame for that. I think it sold more FA 43s than any Pentax ad
