DA35 is probably the best lens I've ever owned.

I shoot with my 5D II bodies for commercial work and my K-7 for personal stuff. I compared some shots I took with my tack-sharp copy of my 24-70/2.8L to my DA35 and boy the difference is astounding. Both shots taken at f/2.8, both on RAW and at ISO100, photos I took for my strangers project, and the ones taken with my DA35 are amazingly detailed. The sharpening and processing are the same on both as well.

You could see all the pores on the guy's face!

Looking at what I've shot this year:

#1: DA15 by a pretty large margin. Who knew wide angle would be so fun?

#2: DA70. This caught me by surprise. Got it last year and didn't use it nearly as much, but I guess I'm finding this focal length more useful these days. Lots of concert shots, but also portraits, my cats, florals, and other subjects.

#3: M135/3.5, only slightly below DA70. Mostly concerts, some "macro" shots with Raynox 150 and a few other miscellaneous telephoto shots.

Next on the list but *much* further down in sheer numbers is the DA40. And the M28/2.8, for a while one of my most used lenses, is considerably further back; it's well below the M100/2.8 and DA50-200 that I don't even carry with me much. I think the DA15 is really "stealing" a lot of the 28's shots - the 28 was formerly my widest prime. I knew this was happening, but hadn't realzied to what extent. I had been considering taking the M28/2.8 out of my regular bag and moving it to the "bullpen". Not that it takes up much room normally, but on the occasions when I want to put the camera away with DA40 mounted, it's an tight/awkward fit tht leaving the 28 out would simplify. I may just do that now that I see the numbers.

In fact, I'm feeling now that I could do really well with just a 15-40-70 kit - except for concerts, when I'd bring the 135 too.

For 20 years all I used was my "kit" s-m-c- tak. 55/1.8 and an Albinar 135/2.8 (with a Sp. II). Digital messed it up, I lost my beloved 135mm. I now have a smc tak. 85/1.8 which I deeply love for its color rendering. It is my new 135mm.

I have many lenses now, really many. I use them all. Each has an ability to make me take different pictures.

As of now:

I use all but the albinar and DA zoom's regularly.

For macro (almost all I shoot) -

1. Pentax M 50mm F/1.7
2. Sigma 105mm F/2.8 macro
3. Pentax M 28mm F/3.5

For regular use -

1. Pentax M 85mm F/2
2. Pentax K 50mm F/1.2
3. Sigma 105mm F/2.8 macro

My three will probably raise some eyebrows:
  1. DA 40mm (Great all around lens)
  2. DAL 18-55mm (I know the first thing you are supposed to do is sell the kit lens and buy something else but I think this is a good travel lens and better than most people give it credit for)
  3. FAJ 75-300mm (This one is not very well reviewed and hardly ever mentioned but if you stay away from the extremes, what it can do will surprise you.)
Interesting thread.

Looking at statistics of the past year, it looks like this:
1006 photos: FA*24
664 phots: FA 35
631 photos: DA 14

But that is biased by the fact that on parties I shoot low light and wide and a lot of pictures. Actually I often go out only with my trusty FA 24-90 zoom.

I'll trade you my K135 f2.5 (in fact I have a second one I'll throw in too) and A135 f2.8 for that A*135 f1.8! Deal? No? Didn't think so. I'd Love to have one of those...

Well, the "most-used" lens I have by simple EXIF is... (drumroll)...

1) DA 10-17mm fisheye
Yep. I do love the lens, but it's over-use is due to how many HDR panos I shoot with it (roughly 200 panos in the past year, with an average of 35 images for each (7 shots around, x5 brackets)).

2) DA 70mm limited (makes everyone look good)

3) DA*50-135mm (never let me down)

That said, by the end of this year I expect either the recently acquired DA35 or DA12-24 will be a contender for the #3 spot.

DA*16-50
For the next two places some combination of:
K135/2.5, K50/1.2, Porst 55/1.2, Helios 44K-4, K15/3.5, DA*50-135 and M100 macro.

My new WR macro will be among those shortly...
