Hi,

The Promaster lenses are re-badged. If you are talking about the PROMASTER AF 70-300mm f4-5.6 LD TELE-MACRO LENS. Then this would be a re-badged Simga
lens.

It would be a help if you give the exact model name of the lens you are considering.

It could be either a re-badged Sigma or Tamron lens.

In general without exactly knowing the details of which exact 70-300mm Promaster lens you are asking about. The used lens market for these has been in the $80~120.00 U.S. range as of late.

Hope this helps.

Or you can get a 70-300 sigma or tamron for just a bit more. I thought the promaster would be the same optics as the tamron or sigma but i've heard people say they think the tamron and sigma have better IQ.

With specific exact specs it may be possible to determine whether it's a Sigma or Tamron, and which version.

I know for a while Ritz Camera rebadged Tamron's latest 70-300 as Quantaray, it was an excellent lens. There are at least two versions of the Sigma 70-300, as I understand it, it was overall a bit softer than the Tamron (which is ultra-sharp for its price range) but not subject to the purple fringing that is the Achilles heel of the Tamron 70-300.
