I have the K100/4 Macro which I’m pretty sure is based on the M42 version (Same optics) and yes I would recommend it. It's very sharp and the only issue is that it’s a tad slow. The price you mentioned is also ok if it’s in excellent shape.

optically the SMC Tak, SMC K and SMC-M macros are all the same, I have the SMC-M 100F4.

quite sharp but some find the maximum aperture a little slow, it is OK but leaves the viewfinder a little dark at extreme magnifications whe used with extension tubes

Everything I've heard about that lens is that it's great.

The only reason it hasn't interested me is because I have the 90mm macro Tamron.

The modern lenses give you a more scientific approach to macro--crystal clear, razor sharp, laboratory-like.

The legacy macro lenses give you more of an artistic, retrospective effect.

So the lens showed up today, and...........

in manual mode it wont go beyond F11, and sometimes the focus jams on something and then aperture doesnt work at all in manual or auto ( its stuck at F4 when its jammed), if i dont force it and back off a bit and give it a shake, it semi works again as it sounds like something is loose and gets freed up. Optically the glass is almost perfect , no cleaning marks or fungus

is this fixable or should i return it to the ebay vendor?

I dont know how much a LBA would cost , but if its not too much i might be better off getting it fixed saying it was only 89 bucks

Thanks all

while it is probably fixable, you should not have to do it,

this should be the vendor.

I agree

I think Im just going to return it and pay the 9 bucks shipping , kind of sucks, as it appears to be usable , just not consistent

the lame part is, this was the most expensive purchase I have made so far, and its the first dud lens I have got , I paid 50 for a tak 50 f1.4, 28 for a 28mm and 20 for a tak 55 f2 and they all work perfectly, so of course the 115 I paid for this ends up being a bust

Thanks for the reply

Did you try the lens with the A-M switch set to M?

Yes

at M is stays at F4 until the focus ring unjams, then it goes to F11 , even when I move the ring to 16 or 22 it stays at F11 , and if I set the focus to infinity it pops open to F4

Someone was trying to rip you off.

File an incident immediately with eBay and PayPal. It's your only guarantee, albeit a weak guarantee, that you'll ever see your money again.
