DA L 18-55mm kit lens... Sharpest aperture?

Anyone have any test results for sharpest aperture?

What value do you get when you set the "P" mode to MTF and read the value from the status line?

MTF line in P-mode should give you the sharpest apeture setting at any particular FL for a given scene. but apeture selected also depends on the available lighting obvoiusly.

Test data from Photozone.de and slrgear.com suggests f5.6(centre) or f8(centre&edges) at the short end and then f8 for the mid to long end. seems at 55mm edges are better at f11

Pentax SMC-DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL - Review / Test Report - Analysis (AL I version i think?)
Pentax Lens: Zooms - Pentax 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL II SMC DA (Tested) - SLRgear.com! (AL II version)

These are based 1 sample test.

To be honest I've never heard of MTF before! I'll have to check it out some time. Until then, I'll just stick with f8

I tend to use MTF when using program mode. It works with A series and later lenses, which leaves me with three where it works well. It is particularly impressive with the 50-135 - definitely sharp. It tends to keep the aperture right around f/4 - f/5.6, and is tack sharp.
