Rear lens caps

Hi everybody,

How do you keep k type rear lens caps from becoming loose?

Almost all my caps do not stay tight on my lenses, they are worn out.

Is there a way to correct the problem or do we have to buy them by the dozen and replace them?

I don't think any of my pentax original rear caps are loose (not that I'd likely take note of it), so the solution might possibly be not to use third party caps.

But I would buy lots of cheap ones. A dozen rear caps (and a dozen body caps, because they're sold as a pair) only costs 18.02USD from DX (including shipping). Quality seems to vary though, the ones I bought are a good fit, but some comments suggest this is not always the case.

Speaking of pet peeves: What is *up* with the rear caps, anyway?

How hard could it *possibly* be to make rear caps that fit the same lens mount and stay?

One thing I never had to worry about as a Canon FD shooter.

You want them to read "Pentax" ? if so, be prepared to pay a premium. You can buy them from the Pentax stores.

Generic rear caps are just the same, work as well, and cost next to nothing.

Not sure I understand. All my caps are perfectly fitted. The only one I don't like is my Sigma K-mount cap : it's made to go on only if it's at the perfect angle, and I never use it because of that.

I know that they work, but after a few times on & off they start to get loose.

As Ratmagiclady said

So I will have to invent something in maintenance or new style for the caps.

Thanks for all the answers

I've bought these before:
New 5 x Pentax K Mount Plastic Rear Lens Cap Set on eBay.ca (item 360278015069 end time 02-Aug-10 14:52:24 EDT)

They're almost indistinguishable from the genuine article, except that they have PK on the back instead of Pentax Japan.

I think OP/Tech makes a really expensive one with a gasket on it to seal better. But it's really expensive!

HI farfisa,

Thanks for the comments.

I don't mind for them to be marked to "Pentax Japan", I am just looking for a product that will last.

Thanks again

I have Tamron, Pentax and Sigma caps. They all fit well on the lenses, though the Tamron and Sigma can be a little difficult to line up.

However, I have a couple T-adaptors (Kipon and Bower, I think), and those same caps are so loose on them that they have no friction and just fall off.

Your best bet is to buy a bunch and replacement them with the original Pentax ones. There are two sizes of the original Pentax k-mount rear caps. The smaller one was for K & M series lenses and the larger one was for the A series to cover the “A” contacts. The K & M series ones don’t have “PENTAX” written on them, they just say “ASAHI OPT. CO. JAPAN” and later ones were made in TAIWAN”.

Next time you are in Quebec City or Montreal try a camera store that sells used equipment, they will most likely have some kicking around in a box. Other than that eBay always has some.

Hi SpecialK and gofour3,

Thanks for comments,

Will try to get the smaller ones cause I have 4 "M", 1 "K" & 3 extension tube made from teleconverters.

Will try Ebay, since when I am in Quebec or Montreal I rarely have time to go to any store.

And there is always DUCT TAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..............*************lol

If you want the best lens caps, get the Op/Tech. Like every "best" thing in file, they are pricey.

Better yet, get the "double" version:

Jinfinance, purveyor of eBay screens and other accessories has them. Exactly like the originals and shipped to your door for $2 apiece.
