Upgrading to 70-200mm from 70-300mm

I have Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 LD DI which is a pretty good lens. I was wondering if Tamron (or Sigma) 70-200mm f2.8 would be a worthy upgrade? I mostly shoot portrait and street shorts.

depends on the lighting you intend to use in.

on a bright and sunny day, i would say you would find it hard to differentiate pics taken.

While no doubt the 70-200's are better lenses, unless you expect to regualrly need f/2.8, I can't imagine the difference in IQ would worth the difference in price or - more significantly, in size and weight. "Street" shooting with a 70-200 is likely to cause panic, or get you arrested.

Most reports put the Tamron 70-300, Sigma 70-300 and Pentax 50-200 in the same IQ range. I had the last 2 of those.

The Tamron 70-200 has significantly better IQ than those or the Pentax 55-300. It is also 2 or 3 times the weight and cost.

Well, as said before it depends on how you shoot. What are your most used apertures? For me it was totally worth it. I had the 55-300 back "then" (last year) but it never really grew on me. Ok, being more experienced more does also help. But I never regretted throwing the 450 (used) out. My favourite lens now. I found the maximum aperture of the 55-300 (same goes for the 70-300) very limiting. Also, apart from the obvious optical advantages what satisfies me every time I use it is its far superior build.
I never had a chance to test the Tamron 70-200 but while the Sigma is slightly too soft at 200mm and f/2.8 it gets accepteably sharp by f/4 and reaches my point of calling it perfect by f/5.6.

It still depends on you but for me this was my 2nd best buy yet.
