FA* 28-70mm f2.8

I have come to the conclusion that I want to buy a 28-70mm. Does anyone have an idea of a purchases price and any reasons why it wouldnt be a good purchase. I want this lens to fill the gap between my Sigma 10-20 and FA*80-200f2.8.

Around $1500. Is what I've seen/gotten my copies at. It's a fantastic lens, although a bit heavier than most other walkaround zooms.

The average price in the lens database is a bit low for this lens, IMO: Pentax Lens Review Database - SMC Pentax-FA* 28-70mm F2.8 AL Lens Reviews

I bought my NMIB FA* 28-70 a few weeks ago on eBay for US$ 950, so $1500 seems a little bit on the high side. Maybe if you add import duties and taxes...

Sounds like a good price to me. I like my copy to death already, even though I only have it for two weeks now.

I have the Sigma version of this lens - Full Frame, 28-70, constant 2.8 and excellent EX DF model.
Discontinued, but can be found in Australia for around $350.
Consider it equal to my F50 1.7 in IQ.

The hood for the FA*28-70 is the same as the FA*80-200. Since you already have the latter, you can get away with not having a hood for the former.

Thanks for that, I didnt know that.Maybe a bargaining tool to get price a bit lower without hood.Cant see myself lugging 2 cameras around at same time .
Any idea how much a hood would be worth?.

The hood would be very hard to find, so it's also hard to put a value on that. But indeed, the FA* 80-200 and FA* 28-70 hoods are the same. I have just checked that. It seems that on a trip I would take both zooms with me and only one hood. It's a good way to keep the price down, indeed!

BTW, in the case of rare/good quality lenses I always do it like this: buy first, ask questions later.

Not sure if I can bargain with then, but cany hurt trying. I found an old post of a new hood for sale and was us$100. So I will see what happens. I cant find a lens I would want anymore than this one. Thanks for the help.

Tried to bargain with owner on lens cap issue. Wouldnt budge on price.Still cheaper than well used one I was looking at. The lens looked in pretty good shape. I decided to buy it even without the hood as I can use the hood of my 80-200. Cant wait to get it.
I think I will keep my Sigma 17-70 and leave on the K10 D for my wife when I eventually upgrade. Not sure when as Im pretty happy with the K10D and a few good lenses. Thanks for the help,it has been much appreciated.
