I am interested in hearing how the Cosina Zeiss are distinctly better than the Cosina Voigtlander. They seem to me to be over-priced and under-featured, especially when we have Limiteds around.
Wow, why don't you say something nasty about my Mom? I would almost rather you do that than bad-mouth a lens that I am completely in love with.
I won't argue that Zeiss is over-priced. You pay a premium to get the best of pretty much anything. And I guess I've never thought of them as under-featured because you're not buying features, you're buying quality. Think of Zeiss the same way that people thought of Mercedes-Benz back during the 60's and 70's. Not gee-whiz technology, just rock-solid build quality.
As far as the difference with Voigtlander, I will only say that at one time that's what I set out to get. After all, they
are much cheaper. In my pre-purchase research, however, I came across story after story of Voigts that arrived with elements loose in the barrel, copious amounts of dust in the lens, and just general disappointment in the performance. These were all new lenses. I found no such stories about Zeiss. So I took the plunge. And its been love ever since.
I actually already had the DFA100WR when I got the Zeiss and honestly, it could give it a run for its money as far as IQ. Not quite as good, but too close to justify the price difference. Then I went for an afternoon of shooting at a local botanic garden. I took 4 lenses with me, including both of these guys. I made myself use all 4 of the lenses, but the only one I found myself
wanting to use was the Zeiss. No other lens feels like such a precise photographic tool. I've had a limited and have used others and they're very nice and feel very well-built. But not like this. The optical properties of the lens are beyond reproach, but honestly, its more about the intangibles, at least for me. I can truly say that I have never enjoyed photography as much as I did that day, and it was blazing hot. Perhaps this mini-review of my particular Zeiss will shed some more light for you:

I fully realize that not everyone will feel that Zeiss is worth the premium. It's just not their thing. But I have discovered that it
is my thing. I just wish I could afford more of them.
