Chasing My Boy with DA 50-200

I could not have shot these without my DA 50-200. All are shot with
K100D and I am not sure I turned on AF.C. Need to check to confirm.

And consider that I was actually running, paused and took the shots,
the lens does pretty good in capturing the motion in the running. I
was a bit off in not getting the full body. And that was likely
because of the fact that I was running with him and then stopped and
took the shot while standing.

Wow haha great photos! Good edge to edge performance for the DA 50-200.

Your son will thank you plenty when he grows up. Plenty of photo albums!

A wonderful series, a handsome boy, a proud father, and a lens in skilled hands. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you everyone, more on how I feel

Thanks everyone on the kind comments. I shot the series before I get my FA 50 f/1.4. And I think many of the shots are at a very far distance and I actually used 200mm. I think the FA 50 would be a bit faster in the AF but it can't reach my boy's outrunning me in front.

It is a pure joy in taking this series. I feel like doing paint-ball with my DA 50-200. It is how I feel on that day! I ran after my boy, heart pounding with both hands securing my DA for protection, heavy backpack on my back with ammunition for more power -- battery, kit's len and water. I set zoom at range closer to 200 mm, paused behind my running boy, aim and shoot, and ran again. And in some of my shots, I managed to knell down to get extra stability.

I love the DA 50-200, perhaps I get a good copy, and I think Pentax has some quality issues with the lens, my copy was made in Vietnam and it was my 2nd copy as I returned the first copy failing in making infinity focus at 50mm.

And with portraits done at home with my kids

I am looking for external flash for bouncing light from celing

Hin's Tech Corner: Flash after Pentax FA 50 f/1.4

Though I already have FA 50 f/1.4, I am unsettled with softness in indoor pictures at f/2.0. I may have a lemon copy. Though I love the color, contrast, AF, great perspective, I find baffling softness when I zoom in to pixel peep. I am contemplating to call up BeachCamera for either returning for a new copy or a refund. I am unsettled on the FA 50 f/1.4. Some indoor shots (with many user errors ) in this photoset

Try manaul focusing on some text or something with alot of texture. Turn the ring slowly until you hit the focus and get the confirmation light. Cuz if anything my A50/1.4 seems to get pretty sharp shots wide open. Maybe I was just under the spell of the f1.4. I'll take some shots later tonight to see. If the f2 stop is as soft as you say it is, then maybe I wasn't wrong to be using my russian mc helios-44K-4 58mm f2 haha. the <$30 Russian Zeiss of a lens. Very sharp at f2 and the bokeh is great.

But why the FA 50 is under performing, I think is probably an AF error. The Dof is very thin too so be aware of that. Try the manual focus tests. If they are still bad, then you know it's gotta be the lens.

Here's two more for the DA 50-200mm praising (with literally NO composition time).. I took these last night. I was actually on the patio cleaning my filters when I saw something moving in the corner of my eye.. I just grabbed the camera, wasn't even sure what lens was on it really, and snapped a shot... He got scared and ran. I attempted to move around a chair to get the second shot and just as I fell over I snapped the second photo of him running away.. I confirmed that SR was on but, me falling over a chair while snapping the second phot was far too much to compensate for.. lol

Ps. Hmm, Seems like Picassa (all I have at work) murdered the photos when saving to jpg from pef.. Oh well.
