Vivitar 85mm/1.4 at Overstock.com $238 with Bing Cash Back

Hey all,

I'm not sure if anyone is interested, but with using Bing cashback you can get 30% off of the pentax-mount Vivitar 85/1.4 manual-focus lens.

In Nikon-mount, Ken Rockwell seems to give it a pretty good review: Vivitar 85mm f/1.4

I've never used Bing cashback so, your mileage may vary but here's the basics of doing it.

1. Go to Bing and do a search for Overstock
2. Just below "ALL RESULTS" you should see a blue overstock.com link that says "Bing cashback" on the same line. Click the blue link.
3. Even though it says 15% on the search page when you click the link a window will pop up saying that it's 30% cash back, you will need to sign in with a microsoft/hotmail account or sign up for an account
4. Do a search for Pentax 85

Again, I've never used Bing cashback so I have no idea how long it takes Microsoft/Bing to send you your money...

it's a very nice portrait lens. very smooth bokeh and has very good light transmission. I sold mine in favor of the upcoming AF Sigma 85.

I just read the Ken Rockwell review and am totally amazed that anyone would ever read his site. The man has no clue what he's talking about. It reads like a teenager who just picked up his first camera and did his research on forums to write that article.

Either way, this lens is indeed very interesting and I thank you for the tip. I might just pick it up at this price to play with. Samyang seems to be making some good optics these days. It's been a while since I took a look at a non-Pentax lens.

EDIT: I missed out on the deal.... Perhaps next time.

I have had the vivitar version for about 18 months now, and it is a really interesting lens. I found it quite sharp even below F2.8 which is a little unexpected for a lens like this.

The lens is now one of the lenses I always take i my "short kit"

My short kit is what I take if I am going to be travelling on holidays and not doing anything but city touring.

It presently consists of 4 lenses, 2 of which are samyang lenses (rebranded by others)

the short kit is...

8mmF3.5 prooptic (samyang) fisheye
10-20mm f4-5.6 sigma
28-75 F2.8 tamron
85mm F1.4 Vivitar (samyang)

plus 1.7x AF TC

I take either 1 or two bodies depending on where I'm going and how long
