Asahi NC Takumar 3,3/300mm Pentax M42 Nocta IR
Anyone know what this is used for? Just wondering whether to bid $Au4000 on it or whether I can live with out it.

Possibly a bit specialised especially as CS4 has IR adjustment layers

I'm not sure what is your purpose for it. are you going to use it more than 50% of the time?

This lens is not said to be very good, I'm not sure you will have infinity, because it come out from a Nocta set, and seems to be overpriced for me, as the last Nocta set I saw was sold for approx 2100€, buying the lens alone, without its front cap, for ~2700€ is too expensive for me. There are much better lenses to buy before, for me

Neither am I -that's what I'm asking - what is it for??? A 600mm lens is half the price and far more attractive

I have a 300 which I've used zero times. Unless you're planting yourself on a tripod and shooting birds far away, 600 is pretty ridiculous on our sensors.

The Nocta system was introduced in 1966 with specially corrected IR lenses.

Also keep your eyes peeled at all times for a Helios 58mm F2. Incredible lens still available at bargain prices, but they make a bunch of different versions.
