Takumar 17mm F4 Fisheye

I saw an image of this lens, & it had a black disc (with a hole in the middle), sitting adjacent to it, near the lens mounting face.....is there such a detachable "disc" or something of that nature on this lens....never seen it before!
Cheers, Pickles.

Can't do that....I think I saw the image on the Spotmatic User's Site...., BUT, I've sinse discovered what it is!
Van Oosten's book also has an image of this disc being removed from the lens...he says it is "a gelatine filter holder on the rear of the lens"!
Cheers, Pickles.

I think the Ultimate Screwmount Guide is enough clear, it is a gelatine filter holder. I had it on the two 17/4 taht landed in my hands.

Is a filter holder
You cut gelatine squares, put them in that disc and screw it in the back of the lens

I've been drooling over that lens for a long time.

However, since it's full-frame and I use a Cokin system, and I have a holder which screws onto the barrel of the lens and not into the filter thread, I think I could use my polarizer (and other) Cokin filters as you normally would, plus without any vignetting.

Not 100% sure though.

I don't see how with film FF. That lens has 180* FOV. Even attaching the holder for the reduced APS FOV would be a problem given that the front of the barrel is the filter selector.

I held a 58mm polarizer in front of my 17mm tak on aps-c digital without vignetting. On film - no way.
