I assume this is the same lens I have; the relatively cheap 'plastic fantastic' di lens. Good photo just shows you don't have to throw lots of money at photography to get a good piccy.

Very impressive. I have the same lens - your pic is an inspiration to get out and use it more!

At ISO800, did you use any noise reduction in the PP? I've found with mine (on the K20D) that I need to use a touch of Noise Ninja in Aperture - just enough to smooth it out, but not enough to make it plasticky.

And aperture setting? As a guess: f/8?
Good result - can't take much away from that consumer lens for its performance...

vulcanman--that is a nice shot, especially wide open. I used to shoot that lens with my K20d and was impressed with it too. I still think it is about as good a value as you can get for 300mm on DSLRs. I moved on to a similar lens, the Tamron Adaptall 60-300 3.8-5.4 manual focus lens, because I liked the IQ even more and enjoy MF. Best of shooting to you!

I agree wholeheartedly! Great lookin' shot, vulcanman.

Don't forget about this lens' macro capabilities!

I used LR to open the raw file and cropped slightly to get a 16:9 aspect ratio and saved to a 1920x1080 file. I believe LR by default does a tad bit of sharpening.

Very nice shot. I have had an equally good experience with my (also plastic and cheap) Sigma 70-300.
