I expect the DG f/2.8 can do amazing things - but I don't want the price and weight of amazing. I'm seeking a portable bridge-zoom between the 16-45 and 55-300, something for small, everyday travel in my hybrid pack for times when a photo strikes me.
I know of three: a f/3.5-4.5, a HiSpeed f/2.8-4 (55mm filters) and apparently a
DG f/2.8-4 (58mm filters). Since I have 58 cPL for the 55-300 that would be my preferred pickup - but how is it for sharpness, bokeh, general image quality? It's a DG which implies it's pretty good, and specs show a small and light lens. I could just pick one of the $20 Quantaray/Sigma 28-90 that spread after Ritz' fire sales a year or two back - I had one for my Alpha, it was OK but unspectacular, and f/5.6 pretty quickly.
If you have any experience with the elder 28-70 sigmas, especially one of the f/2.8-4 models, I'd like to hear what you thought. Figured I'd ask here first, then perhaps migrate to the 'wanted' section..
Thanks!
