Is there a way to keep DA*16-50mm SDM working for a LONG time?

Well, i guess it's a question for the guys who have the DA* 16--50 and never had SDM failure for... say, at least 2--3 years.

Is there a special way to keep the SDM working? For example, use it as walk-around lens and never take it off the body?

thanks a lot for any input!

The best thing you can do is to use it frequently and regularly.

Get a long warranty on the lens and use it frequently. A lot of the reports of issues do seem to involve lenses sitting for awhile and then having difficulty "warming up."

thanks guys! yeah, i also believe that using it frequently is very helpful.

I just hope some DA* 16-50 owners that have never experienced SDM issues can share their experience of how to take care of the lens.

No need to worry about having to leave the lens mounted on all the time.
It's all about using the lens at least every couple weeks (every week to be on the safer side).

I can vouch for the SDM needing multiple AF attempts to engage with the camera after leaving it unused for a month or two.

That is interesting,,, can not comment because I use it on a daily bases.

Cheers, Mike.
