No noticable different in focusing speed, at least we haven't noticed any difference on our side-by-side test. Sigma 17-70 HSM has micromotor (not ring motor), it's just as slow as Pentax's SDM.

I have the 70-200 on the k20d and find it pretty quick and quiet but don't have a Pentax lens to compare it to.
