SMC Takumar 120mm f2.8

Guy on Craigslist is selling one with metal hood in "great" condition for $100. Been on there over a month. Is this a no brainer? I love my SMC 50/1.4 on my K-X with adapter. If it is worth more than $100 I can explain to my wife it is an investment

It's in the database.
Pentax Lens Review Database - Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 120mm F2.8 Lens Reviews
My google research indicates it is good and rare, worth maybe $200 so I am 90% sure will jump on it.

These go for a lot more on ebay, you could test it out and turn a profit.

No brainer imho. If it isn't already gone since so many eyes here have seen your post, get it, you will not be disappointed! That is less than half going rate. I have one & it is tack sharp from wide open, although Gerjan says it is slightly soft wide open, great for portraits, good working distance focal length between 85 & 135. One of the last Takumars I'd sell if I had to sell any.

It is NOT an S-M-C but a Super-Takumar. Still a no brainer...

Yes, it does sound cheap, but some people's "great" description may not correspond with yours. Pentax SMC M42 prices vary MASSIVELY according to condition.
Cheers, Pickles.

I have a mixed feeling about the 120/2.8 since they are not that far-off from the 135mm lenses in terms of focal length and pricing. but personally speaking, I would prefer getting the 135mm,especially the f2.5 (m42 S-M-C and SUper Taks) which are selling for as low as that 120mm is.

The 120 is compact, slightly smaller than 3.5/135, close to 2.8/105 size. The 2.5/135 are monsters by comparison.

What else can I say? Those who have it and those others know it; those who don't, well, they are missing something worth having...not that the others are not.

You should see the M120/2.8. It's really small (and light); smaller than all's its neighboring focal length lenses.

On my site, with some samples :
Takumar 120/2.8 - Takumar - The eyes of the Spotmatic
It was only available in S-M-C version, I find it great for portraits. I paid two minty copies about 190€ on ebay (bidding, not BIN), $100 is a really good price

Someone remind me not to go poking around on CarbonR's site looking at all of the fancy lenses I don't have.

Plz

Somebody bought it the day I posted this... and the seller told me it was strange because it had been on CL for over a month and I called him, and then the next day someone else. Quite possibley it was a fellow Pentaxforums.com user in my area No hard feelings though, lesson learned...
