Telephoto lens - need advice

Hi guys
I'm looking for some telephoto zoom so I've found
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG
Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di L
any experience with those 2?
as well Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6
faster lens is lighter and smaller as well
Cheers guys

The Tamron Vs. Sigma 70-300 is pretty common

tamron 70 300 vs sigma - Google Search

I went with the Tamron just because of the long warranty, but then returned it as I was happy with my DA 50-200

If I were to go back I'd probably get the Sigma 50-200 HSM just because I'd like to see what HSM can do, especially if it's faster than screw drive in AF-C

Welcome to the PF Forums!

You have listed 3 solutions but not the requirements or the budget. Hard to help other than point you to reviews (see our Lens database) and give you many personal preferences. For example, what is your requirement...200mm or 300mm? what is your expected use for the at soccer games or birding? Depending on the budget there are always far better options.

There's no requirement at all I'm just looking for some telephoto zoom when 18-55 is not enough. This 200 or 300 have to be only for special occasion like airshows etc. Budget is around 200 pounds. Sigma 55-200 looks fine but there's no so many reviews like 70-300. But smaller and lighter lens and good AF.

Every time I think of selling my Tamron, I take it out, take some photos, and then change my mind. For the money, it's pretty hard to beat. It will never compare to upper end zooms and especially prime lenses in the same ranges but I think it's still pretty respectable.

Any reason you haven't listed the Pentax 50-200 or 55-300? I'd take either of these in a heartbeat over the Tamron or Sigma. But see the many, many, many existing threads here and in the Beginner's forum for tons more discussion of these lenses. Also see the lens review section of this site.

Jaroslaw83...Marc beat me to it. Once I saw your budget I think with a little shopping you can come up with the Pentax da55-300 which as Marc says, beats all the listed solutions you have hands down. Personally I was not as impressed with the da50-200 but am sure you will be happy with the da55-300. You might try a WANTED ad in the forum marketplace to get a nice copy within your budget from a UK (?) member.
