Pentax A* 85mm/1.4

In the mid '80's, my Dad gave me (as a Christmas present) an A* 85/1.4 - a physically beautiful piece of work I've tried to keep pristine over the years. I haven't used it recently (growing lazy with AF), but something made me pull it off the shelf this afternoon.

Thinking some folks might enjoy seeing this old guy, I took some closeups (with my DA 35L) and now have posted them here.

When the sun gets a little lower (and the heat goes down a bit), I'm going to take this guy out and play with it a while.

Jer

Damn you!

Did you have to post these? After looking at `em I have an erection and no way of get rid it, ARGH!

Ouch did I just say that?

PS. Seriously, your copy looks pristine!

PPS. I bet pictures taken with the lens can be even better than pictures taken of the lens. Can you dig up some?

That's a beautiful lens in pristine condition, Jer! What a present from your dad.

P.S. need any adoptive sons?

*EX+* Pentax-A* (star) SMC 85mm/f1.4 Lens w/Hood 85/1.4 - eBay (item 310224287708 end time Aug-01-10 03:40:24 PDT)

I have a proposal. Are there members out there who would like to go in on this lens with me???

We will ship each other this lens every couple of months. One has an option to buy out the other at a pre-determined price.

Could be three to four people even.

Anyone??

This one is a bit over-priced, I think, BTW.

Any other unused gems in your closet Jer? An A* 400/2.8 or a A* 1200/8 perhaps?

Beautiful lens my friend and a joy to see one in such great shape. Your DA 35/2.8

is no slouch either and rendered it very sharply indeed. This 85 deserves to see the

light of day. Noblesse oblige mon ami. When you have a lens like this you really

must share some shots.

enjoy it and please don't tease me too much....

I'm glad y'all enjoyed seeing and appreciating my old friend (which has aged considerably better than its owner).

I posted some shots I took with lens late yesterday afternoon (link below). None are real keepers, but they were the best I could do under a full-scale mosquito attack in the waning sunlight.

Again, thanks for the kind comments of my lens, which - for me - has real personal value apart from its photographic excellence.

Jer

Damn, even though I already have the magnificent FA* 85/1.4 [IF], my LBA is acting up big time after seeing those product shots and sample photos. One day I will have one too (or so I hope)

Pentaxor, that should not be a problem. Fifth floor is great. Better forth or sixth . . . Let's do this. You and me. I am thinking maybe smc might want to join us . . . . . Maybe three of us. Every four month we will play with A* 85. Yes. What a deal.
