If you are willing to go with an M series, consider a Super-Multi-Coated Tak or a late S.T. 35mm/3.5. Use a hood with both of them.

Heck, here's an A35mm f/2.8 that popped up today for $85 CAD: Great Pentax K mount Lenses and Bodies! HUGE CLEAROUT!!!!

Wrong side of the world and who knows what the condition is like. Almost tempted to pick it up myself but getting downtown from where I live is a pain unless I'm intending to spend all day and at least $20 on transportation.

I also would recommend the S-M-C Takumar 35mm f3.5.

It's very, very sharp - even wide open. It's very light and compact, and it's very affordable.

It's also an M42 fit of course, so you'd need an adapter (genuine Pentax!), and it's rather difficult to focus accurately (thanks to its focal length and aperture).

Another tick for the Tak ... hee hee
I love my 35mm f/3.5 ... it's a really nice crisp lens ... and definitely cheerful.
