Hi fellow Pentaxians. I recently purchased a Super Takumar 55mm f/2 as part of a bundle and I should say that I really like the feeling of this little lens ! I just wish it was a little faster.

However, I read somewhere that this lens was pretty much a Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8 but with something that pentax added to prevent the aperture to open up all the way to 1.8. Thus, has anyone every successfully converted a Takumar 55mm f/2 into a f/1.8 ? If so, is that really that complicated, because I would like to try.

If someone has done it and would like to share some insight, that would be great.

I never heard of that, but what's the point? 1.8's are selling for 25 bucks U.S. tops.

But if you like that lens, treat yourself to a 50 1.4, which can still be had for between $75 and $100. (I suggest the Super-Multi-Coated version, but if you can grab a Super at a good price, do it.)

These lenses are built like tanks, and they're real addictive. Once you feel the build quality, you're afraid to use modern lenses out of fear of breaking them!

Yeah sure they don't cost much but I like the one I have and I figure that if I could make an f/1.8, I'd go for it. Otherwise, I would need to sell this very fine lens and look for another one, I guess I wanted to save myself some trouble.
Also, doesn't the 1.4 have some yellowing problem ? Although I believe it can be solved bu exposing the rear element to sunshine / UV ?
