Tom,
I had Da200mm mated to a very rare SDM compatible 1.5 TC which actually added up to exactly 300mm. It was quite comparable in every aspect. Since somehow you did not take this A300mmF4 I sold the TC.
All my other lenses are AF except this A300mm and Zenitar 16mm But you do not MF the Zenitar at all given its huge DoF.
Originally posted by smc I have to agree.....I've given up on AF as it's too slow (Pentax and Canon...I haven't really tried Nikon). I also haven't used burst mode but I should give it a try. It takes some practice to get the hang of it, but I think eventually you'll end up with more keepers than what AF can offer.
Agreed. Both Canon and Nikon want us to upgrade our gear rather than our skill. Intuitive focus tracking (for AF) is still too demanding on the hardware side. Within 1/3 of a second, the camera does the metering, does focus lock on the subject at 1 of the 9 focus points, moves the SDM motor of the lens to the right focus position and drops the mirror to complete one shoot. That happens just to 1/3 of a second (for Pentax 3FRS). And for high end Canon/Nikon, it could be 1/10 of a second. No wonder initially some Canon 1DMarkIII got the mirror box and electronics heated up like crazy.
