17mm on 24x36 means 104° covering, so you need a ~11mm lens on APS-C to cover the same area

...Tamron 17mm on film ...
Your 17mm certainly looks better than the two reviews would indicate. Presuming this is an Adaptall SP lens, you might consider adding your impressions to the review section.

If I write a review for each different lens I tried, I would have to write... more than 160 reviews And that include only the lenses I own or owned, not all the ones I've been lend...
For this shots I was at something like f/8-f/11, but the Tamron seemed to be less good than the Tokina RMC I had (altough being correct). I sold both since I have the Takumar 15/3.5 which is wider (but it doesn't suit this topic )

Thank you. I've been wondering if that SP 17 was as mediocre as reviewed.

Being a huge fan of off-brand and cheap lenses and having been told that my initial impressions that this thread was Pentax only were in error, I submit my two cheapest lenses, both of which were purchased for less than $20 USD.

KMZ Helios 44M 58/2

The various Helios 44 lenses were kit lenses available with the Zenit series of 35mm SLR cameras. All feature consistent center sharpness at all apertures, softer in the corners (quite acceptable on APC-C however), and love-it-or-hate-it bokeh. Did I mention beautiful colors? (Three of the images below made it into PPG )

Auto-Rikenon 50/1.7

This lens was available as kit with Ricoh cameras made in the mid-1960s into the early 1970s. While it is no Takumar, it is a fine lens in its own right and lends a certain presence to the photos I have taken with it. Despite a hexagonal iris, I think the bokeh is exceptional.

I would say that altough being not very sharp, the Tamron is still very usable if you stop it down. But if you can get the Tokina RMC, I think it will be better.

Mamiya-Sekor 150/3.5 C

Would adapting something on hand from another system be considered free for Pentax? Even so, I acquired it as a non-functional lens for $6 and repaired it.

Here's a Mamiya-Sekor 150mm/3.5 C on a K200D using a DIY adapter. Absolute sharpness isn't perfect, but the colors are saturated with good contrast.

ISO 200, 1/125th @ f 8

I may not agree totally with the reviews posted. But I only bought the Tamron SP 17mm f/3.5 adaptall-2 51B for film gear use and it has worked quite well for me

Old version with internal optical filters
Normal, 81B, 80B, and Y2

Tamron SP 17mm f/3.5 adaptall-2 51B

What they said may have been true in use with digital gear. I found it very much to my liking using it on b&w film with my film gear

Likely wide open in f/3.5 with Kodah BW400C and Ricoh xr-p

Likely wide open in f/3.5

Tamron SP 17mm f/3.5 adaptall-2 51B

Thanks,
Hin

Well, I don't have much time right now to post pictures, but you can pretty much check anything I've posted since 2 weeks after I got my K-x, so late June. I'm using a SMC Pentax A 50mm 1.4, came on a A3000 I got for $10 at a yard sale. And a Makinon 135mm 2.8 that came with a bag of goodies I snagged for $10 at a closing resale shop, along with a ME Super, 22-80 Tamron auto focus (boy do I wish I hadn't sold it on eBay now!) and several other items, including 3 or 4 filters, a screw mount adapter and a flash. I also have 4 or 5 other 50mm lenses, all Pentax or SMC Pentax, 1.4, 1.7 and 2, all under $10 usually with a used camera. So my entire lens setup cost me less than the cheapest lens I can find anywhere...Except maybe the Sears 80-200 I just picked up online, $22 and should be here in a few days. So I guess that one doesn't count yet since it's not in my grubby little hands...
