Wanted to see if my DA 40 I got in the mail today is up to quality, I took this one at f/5.6 as a review said it was the sweet spot, I can crop and post other apertures if it's more important to testing the lens

All %100 crops of each corner, center and a select cutout. Taken in Pentax Raw, no PP except for crop and export>JPEG maximum quality with iPhoto (upgrading soon), full frame for reference

Center seems a bit soft, it could have been the relatively long exposure though

Just go out and take pictures. Your lens is fine.

Well this is the first time I've ever bought a nice lens and I don't want to throw away 340 bucks unless I get my full money's worth, that's a whole lot of money to me

Personally I find it hard to believe how much sample variation there would appear to be, from just reading these forums. I see no reason to think there is anything wrong with your lens, go have fun with it instead

Yes they seem pretty consistent I just wanted to make sure after getting a defective DA 15 the day before (af problems though, didn't bother checking the optics as it's going back anyway)
