Why no new lenses from anyone?

Why hasn't Tamron or Pentax replaced the 18-250 with the new version of the 18-270? Nobody is putting out new lenses in a Pentax mount. The new 70-300mm Tamron just announced today will be in Nikon, Canon, and Sony. Sony has in camera stablization so that can't be the reason for not making them in Pentax mounts. Pentax isn't coming out with anything new in that focal length either. Very frustrating.

Pentax models usually trail behind the Canon and Nikon versions, but get here eventually.

But why!

Why discontinue something like the 18-250 then wait over a year to bring out something new?

I can't answer for Tamron, but I suspect they stopped making the 18-250 for all mounts, and they developed the Pentax mount last, since it sells fewer examples. The added complication is that the new model has image stabilization, which is not needed on Pentax bodies.

The new Tamron 70-300 is optimized for FF cameras for one thing. Sigma has put out some new lenses in Pentax mounts. Tamron usually is slower bringing out lenses in k-mount but they eventually do. I'm clueless about why Pentax does what it does (but I don't think I'm alone there).

Personally, I'm not waiting for the next big thing. It'll happen when it happens. There is plenty of good glass out there now.

Third parties aren't gonna rush to market for Pentax as they are so small. Might as well get the Canikon versions on the shelves first and then start to manufacture a K mount...I don't really see the big deal between 250 and 270 anyhow..

Further, there are plenty of offereings in the 55-300/70-300 for Pentax so whats the big deal?

Pentax itself has a pretty solid lineup of lenses in the DA/DA* line now so not sure what they would introduce that would replace any of the current lenses, other than small improvements here and there...especially in that FL you were talking about - from all accounts, the DA 55-300 is a superb lens at that price point..

As blackcloudbrew puts it, there is far enough great glass available right now, we don't need to whine about what is and isn't available.

for what it's worth, Zeiss usually release their glass (manual lenses, that is) in K mount first...

Why would Pentax need to come out with anything "new" in that focal length range when they've already got the DA55-300? And why would it frustrate you that Tamron's more expensive and probably optically inferior 70-300 is not available for Pentax?

But FWIW, there are plenty of new lenses available for Pentax, incuding superzooms and wide angle zooms from Sigma, primes from Samyang and others, etc.

I really wouldn't compare the 18-250 to the 55-300. The 18-250 was an excellent "all-purpose" walkaround lens. I would not say that of the 55-300. You need to carry one more lens along with it to get the coverage of the 18-250.

I think that Pentax stopped making the 18-250 because Tamron stopped making it.

I wasn't comparing the 55-300 to the 18-250 - I was comparing it to the 70-300, which the OP specifically complained wasn't available for Pentax.

I agree the 55-300 is not a replacement for an 18-250. But the Sigma 18-250 is, and that's a fairly new lens right there. Really, it's false to say that no one is putting out new lenses for Pentax, and it's specifically false with respect to superzooms.
