yusuf, you must have had two bad copies. My Samyung 85mm F1.4 was (is?) a great lens. When it got stolen it was replaced with a Fa77, and I have a Da 50-135 and a Super Tak 85mm F1.9 but I'm still thinking about buying another Samyung. I loved that lens.

It's a Russian lens, sold directly from Russia, but that's not actually any sort of problem.

Careful....it's addicting. I'm stuck on the 80 something kick. I have the; 83/1.9 Takumar, 85/1.8 Auto Tak, 85/1.8 SMC Tak, K85/1.8 and the FA77ltd.

The K85 rarely leaves my camera. Sometimes some magical soft qualities are better...sometime something a bit sharper is nice, but the K85/1.8 seems to be able to deliver both.

Based on his profile, it appears to be the Vivitar version of the 85mm f/1.4.

So that's how they do it!

Just to make things simpler for the OP (or more complicated).

Here is the Super Takumar or SMC Takumar 85mm f1.9 optical diagram:

and here is the SMC Pentax-M 85mm f2.0 diagram:

Not exactly, but nearly the same. I figure that Pentax when they made the M serie recycled the 85/1.9 design, moded it a bit to make it even more compact, et voilá, the M85 was born.

The f1.9 or f2 hardly matters.
So the questions to ask yourself are:

Will you ever use it on a m42 body? Then go the Takumar way.
Do you want to shoot in manual with the green button? Then go the M85 way.
Do you prefere to shoot in apperture priority wide open (or just stopped down one or two steps)? Then go the Takumar way.
Is SMC important for you? Then avoid Super-Takumar version.
Is small important? Then go the M85 way?
Are you ever going to use it on any K mount film bodies? Then go the M85 way.

I think both are good lenses. In the end it may be up to what lens that first appear at the right price...

Thanks. Mine is the Vivitar version. From what I understand, they are all the same, just with different badges.

Probably you are right - my opinion was build by trying two copies but can't deny the bad coincidence.

I will be watching marketplace if someone has to sell their good copy - anyone just PM me

I have awesome luck......not

the guy with the super taks was unavailable, in fact I havent heard from him for about a week now , so of course I bought a helios 40 for 226 euros

we shall see what its like when it arrives, if I dont like It , I can easily sell it for what I paid

thanks for all the advice and suggestions gang , there are too many lenses and not enough cash on my end unfortunately

Due to this thread I´ve sent an e-mail inquiring about the condition of an M 85/2 I´ve seen available for around €200. Some of the photos posted here are great, and something between my 55/1.8 & 100/2.8 would make the perfect portrait lens for me. As always, impressive shots & honest reviews of lenses on these forums.

But I blame you all for my LBA

I wish it was 500.... they would sell triple the amount they will now at its current presumed asking price garunteed.
