Pentax 50mm f/2.0 SMCP-A (Took it out of storage)

I was curious about using a manual lens on the K10D, as a lot of people in here seem to like doing. I can see why. The Pentax camera works very very well with manual focus lenses.

I attached the old Pentax A 50mm f2 onto it. I just fooled around with it, shooting a few test shots as it wasn’t looking at all pleasant outside. I must say, very surprised with the quality of this lens. I know, the photos aren’t great. I just wanted to see what I would get.

A partial shot of a door decoration. I was seeing how close it focuses, etc..

Just a random shot to see if I can manually focus this using the standard K10D focusing screen. It sure helps that the camera tells you when your in focus. Seems to be spot on.

Now, I have 3 Magnicon Pentax-F mount lenses bought in 89 with my Pentax SF10. The 70-210 suffers from the worst purple fringe I have ever seen. I wanted to test how bad the Pentax 50 would do. This was shot through my front door. I am in awe.

I can see what allure the old lenses have. I had forgotten the tactile feel of the buttery smooth focus ring.

Nice, I have that lens also. It just focuses so easily and quickly, it's almost like AF

I just received mine today off of eBay and in the last few hours, I think it's become my new favourite lens.

It's indeed a good lens.
Here's my test shot:

However, I am still not good at the manual focus.
Does anyone know any trick to improve my skill of manual focus???
Thank you very much.

I've got a copy as well, and have taken several nice pictures with it.

Chako, try some night photography with it, and you'll be very impressed. You'll need a tripod of course.

I don't know if I'll be using mine very often now that I have a 55mm f1.8, but you never know. It's always in my camera case.

haha I have a buttery M50/2 but its not quite as sharp as I hoped. I was thinking of getting an M or A50/1.7 for its small size..

Right now, I usually use my MC Helios-44K-4 58/2. Nicely sharp wide open although the focus ring feels no where near as nice as the pentax M and even the A series ones.

I have this same lens and am quite impressed with it. A friend (attack11) had it when he used an Ist DL and it suffered badly on that body. With my Ist DS, it seems quite nice.

Here's a pic I took of my gf's brother real quick on a 2 hr hike(one way) in the middle of nowhere in Northern Ontario.

I picked up a bootleg Katz-eye split prism focusing screen on ebay for around $20 and installed it on my K100D, and it works like a charm. Very accurate. The A 50/2 is indeed an underrated lens, and its tiny size and light weight make even a DSLR a fairly compact size, if not technically pocketable.

I recently got a Pentax Magnifier FB for the camera. It’s a 2x magnifier that flips out of the way. It took a while to get it from the local dealer. Apparently these are hard to get up here in Canada. When I placed my order, they told me it was the last one in stock from Pentax Canada.

Here is what it looks like.

Here is a shot i took inside my old high school in the 125th anniversary of the district. White balance is a bit off, but otherwise a very sharp image. Not bad for a $20.00 lens

I recently saw an old MG camera with this lens attached at a Second Hand Junk shop. Took a good look at the lens and found it to be perfect. Offered $20 the lot and was accepted.
Have found this to be a great lens, very sharp and smooth. I love the 50mm
F4. Find I am using it more and more on the K10d
