Sigma 28-70mm vs Tamron 28-75

I've been hearing a lot of good things about both the Sigma 28-70mm/F2.8 EX DG and the Tamron 28-75 mm f/2,8 XR Di.

While considering the DA*16-50 I am looking at these as alternatives since I don't usually need the wide.

Has anyone done a head-to-head of these two?
I've heard both have issues with quality control, but also understood that if you have a good copy they can compete with the best...

Thanks!

I was told Tamron's QC is slightly better than Sigma's QC, although I am not able to verify this of course. Based on what I saw and read, I go for the Tamron instead of the sigma. It is now on its way and should be with me by end of next week.

I have the Tamron. It is a hell of a good lens. It is the only 3rd party lens I've owned that I could honestly say has that Pentax look and feel to the images it produces.

I have the Sigma 28-70 EX DG and it is soft at 70 but everything else tack sharp. One of my favorite walk around lens when I want a quality shot.

Intersting review. I'll vote for the Tamron as I've had one for a few months and love it. Good build and no complaints about the image quality or AF speed.

I think I will vote for the Tamron as well. I just received my tammy this afternoon and have tried shooting in the house. The lens is sharp and nice. I got my copy made in Japan.

Well, ended up buying the Sigma, only because of availability. In the Netehrlands it is near implossible to find a tamron in a normal shop, and even in webstores they're hard to find. Found a demo version of the Sigma that I took with me leaving €200 behind. Nice images sofar. The only thing is focus speed; nothing has yet matched the (insanely overpriced) Tokina AT-X 2.6-2.8 I tried awhile ago.

Bottom line: LBA won, I've got my lens, now the hunt is on for a nice wide!
