using filters with DA 15mm Limited

Is it possible to use step-up 49-58 ring on this lens? Will built-in hood interfere with it? I've seen the photos and it seems like it will, but maybe it's removable...

Only 49mm rings will fit inside the lens hood which is not removable.

This really sucks! What about 52mm?

52mm is larger than 49mm, so I'm guessing that's a no

Seriously, not even all 49mm filters will fit (and allow the hood to extend). I believe most B&W's won't.

I don't want to rise a hot topic, but it's generally a bad idea to use filters on U-wide lenses... Especially on the U-wides!!!!

That sucks big time! I'm really thinking about buying it right now and that's a major turn-off because I have a lot of Hoya filters for 52-58mm and need the 15mm for landscape/filter use. And there's no way to actually remove these petals, right?

I'm looking forward to buy the 15mm exactly for using it with filters. I shoot infrared and long exposure a lot with wides, so it's a really sensitive topic for me. The front element of this lens allows using filters, unlike with the wider glasses. But this petal thingy is really annoying!

I recently bough 62mm ND400 and Kenko CPL filters. In order to use them on the DA15mm I just bought a cheap 49mm UV filter and took the glass out. It acts as a 49mm thread extension which then gives you enough clearance to fit a 49-62 step-up ring on. Seems to work pretty good and I just leave the 49mm extension on it. The hood can still be extended.

Good luck!

I don't see why you couldn't use an empty 49mm ring and then a step up ring. It might cause slight vingetting, but if you are dead set on using filters it shouldn't be a big deal.

*edit* Koenig was quicker than I. His first hand experience is better anyway.

Didn't think of that Quite a simple solution, really! Thank you for the advice!

Hope it works out for you!

PS: I only noticed vignetting when I stacked two filters onto the 49 + 49-62mm step-up ring. With one filter I don't notice any.

Have you tried any specific filters? I was thinking of picking up a 49mm Kaesemann polarizer but that would put me off of it if it won't fit and allow the use of the hood.
