Repair in Toronto/Canada/US for stuck focus ring

My beloved FA31 Limited's focus ring seems to have some kind of loose part (I can hear something rattle when I shake the lens) in the focus ring, so the focus sometimes gets stuck around 1-2m. And unfortunately it's already out of warranty.

Is there any shop in Toronto I may send this to to get a repair? Or possibly Canada, or maybe US? I know a lot of people seem to be recommending Eric to repair anything Pentax, but has anyone in Canada try that before and get hit with some hefty custom charges (especially with FA31 Limited...) when their package gets sent back?

Thanks

You won't end up paying customs for something that's already yours, I don't think, but I'd recommend you send the lens in to Pentax to get it serviced. It's new enough that they should be able to do the best job with it.

It's probably worth contacting Pentax Canada and asking for a repair quote. Their office is in Mississauga so it is remotely possible you may be able to drop the lens off and describe the issue in person.

Ok thanks for the replies! I was under the impression that most out-of-warranty repairs by Pentax (or Canon, Nikon, etc) would be so expensive that I did not even think about it. I guess I should just try it and give Pentax Canada a call first.

I've had good experiences (both under warranty and, um, not) with Nortown Photo in Mississauga. They are a Pentax-approved repair facility. If I'm not mistaken, they do all the warranty repair work for lenses sold by Henry's.

Their website is: Home of Nortown

For repairs, they also have a handy repair tracking facility on their website. So, you can monitor your baby (er, lens') status while it's getting fixed.

Pentax repair centers charge a lot of money to repair a lens. I just had my DA 21 repaired by Service Camera Pro" in Quebec city, they fixed the lens (too tight focus ring) in two days, for less than what Pentax wanted to charge me just to make the estimate.

pentax canada is in Mississauga, just off Mississauga road if memory serves me correctly

they repaired my K10D a year ago in less than 2 weeks including 2 weekends and a mid week national holiday (canada day)

they used to be closer to me, at dundas and 427 but moved about 2 years ago

I took the camera in and picked it up myself, therefore no shipping
