Ill be going on a trip to Hong Kong next week and my first time
to go out of the country. Had a hard time deciding what lens to bring
ever since i acquired a Sigma 10-20 yesterday..

my lens list are on my signature plus a sigma 10-20 and
some gears a couple of flashes/Triggers/umbrella+stand.

Might bring the AF360 since the battery compartment is broken (I use a rubber to hold it)
I was hoping i might find a Pentax service repair for that.

Im thinking of Sigma 10-20, FA43 and DA50-200 + AF360
What do you think?
Any Suggestions on what to bring will be helpful. thanks

I'd bring the 16-46 also, or else you have a big gap. Leave the flash if you must keep it down. There is already a built in in the camera and the FA43ltd will allow you to shoot in fairly low light.

Shouldn't you research that first instead of perhaps pointlessly carrying a broken flash around with you? Fortunately, their contact information is easy to find:

I think your choices for lenses are spot on. I would not bring the 16-45, if it were me, and I would not bring the flash. The 16-45 adds significant weight. On my last trip, the vast majority of the time, I was fine with DA15,21,40,70. The gap between 21 and 40mm was not a problem for me, since the 21 crops well. I don't know about the Sigma zoom at 20mm, but I know I would not have a problem doing the same thing with my DA12-24 covering the wide end.

I would favour the macro over the tele zoom any day. So my choice would be:
Sigma 10-20, FA43, Tamron 90/2.8 Macro

In fact I tend to carry this trio which is not so different:
DA12-24, FA43, FA77

I've done something similar lately, except I don't have the FA43, so its the DA 40 in the midde.

Ive been there 2days ago and they dont have the parts for repair. i just gave them my number

Ive just tried shooting with the Sigma and the IQ is not that reliable compared to the 16-45.. There were some that shots that the sides looks soft or not in focus even its f8 above..
Just curious how often do you change primes on your last trip

Ill do some test regarding the Sig 10-20's IQ. However I notice the distortion of the Sigma @16mm is worse than the DA16-45.

That is what I would expect. The DA16-45 is an excellent lens, in terms of IQ. However, in a crowded city I would miss the wider range below 16mm a lot more than I would the mid-range, which I would cover with a prime (or two) in any case.

In fact, I have been happy on some trips with covering 12-24mm and 105mm only. Though, given the size, there is rally no reason not to have a Limited prime or fast 50 in a pocket to fill the middle.

Except by the DA55-300.

I am not much of a tele guy, and on my last trip missed having something over 105mm only when we spotted some white-tailed eagles. But I really don't sweat getting every shot. I prefer to make the most of those I can get.

It depends on the day, but some days I changed lenses a lot. I can't give an exact number. In the film days, I only owned one zoom. I got used to changing lenses.

If the superwide setup is not as useful to you, then substitute the 16-45. It is really a matter of how you shoot. Robin likes ultrawide, but for many 16mm is as wide as you need. My widest lens on the last trip was 15mm, and I very seldom wished for more. My most used focal lengths were 40mm and 21mm. I personally am bothered these days by carrying a lot of weight on my shoulder for 16 hours. As an international traveler, the camera equipment is not the only thing that will be on your shoulder, so I tend to pare my equipment down a bit, and I seldom carry two zooms at the same time.

What exactly do you take pictures of your tele lens?
Is it mostly candid portrait? landscapes? structures?

The Photozone review had the Sigma only less than 2% on distortion @10mm
and the DA16-45 has 2% more barrel distortion @16mm
I was expecting the Sigma to have very slight distortion @16mm.. They might
got it wrong or I might.. Can anyone confirm this?

Well thats the problem when you have too many lenses.. I remember just last year I dont have to think on which lenses to bring since i only got the Kit lens
DAL18-55 and 50-200 and im good to go.. I really miss the DAL18-55, size and weight like a prime. love the IQ too..
