DA vs DC vs DG vs DL

I'm in the market for several new lenses for a K20D and have been looking at both Pentax and Sigma brands. In the listing for Sigma lenses in the lens database on this site I notice that instead of DA, Sigma lists DC, DG, and DL. Can anyone point me to a site where these designations are defined/explained? Or should I even care?

DA is an entire lens series from Pentax. See here for details on that: Pentax K-Mount Lenses Explained: The differences between various Pentax lens series

Sigma's DC means digital-only, and DG means digital-optimized but full-frame supported. I haven't heard about DL before.

Thanks, Adam. You're right - I must have gotten excited about pressing keys on the keyboard as I couldn't find any references to DL either.

I had a Sigma 100-300mm DL - think DL is their cheapo lenses.

Tamron uses "LD" for essentially the same thing as Pentax's "ED" - to signify a type of low dispersion glass. If you're looking at lenses for Pentax in general, you should be checking out their lineup too - Sigma and Tamron and the two big third party lens makers, and while there is a lot of overlap in what they offer, there are some lenses that Tamron offers but Sigma doesn't (and vice versa).

I believe the DL series is pre-digital ie film but I've used a 28-300mm DL on my K-5 & taken some very nice shots with it. The beauty being it'll also fit on my MX

Regards
