Hi, I am new on the forum. Not sure if the topic was disussed before, but are there

According to the most recent road map, that is the longest available under the Pentax badge. http://www.pentax.jp/english/imaging/digital/lens/roadmap.pdf

Thank God for other makers with K-mount offering.

Jason

As Jason pointed out DA*300 is the longest at the moment (if that's what you mean by "bigger").
On the last roadmap in circulation (the link provided by Jason) there was a hint of DA super-tele which should be coming. But it's been coming for "a while"... happy waiting

I think bezuidar's question is very valid, since that roadmap has not been updated since March, 2009!
In cameraland, that is like a century ago...

Now it seems like two centuries, given all the news I've noticed on the "other" site in the past few days by the likes of Canon, Sony, and Nikon.

I'd be more interested in wider angles... 8, 10 mm lenses
or a 35/1.4 of course

Hi, it seems that there is nothing bigger than the Pentax 300F4 SDM prime coming out...

Anyone else maybe knows something I dont? Then a question. I read the reviews on the Pentax Prime lens 300F4 SDM. With a AF 1.7x Pentax adapter, what F stop will I get best. F5.6 or F5 on the Pentax K20D. Thanks!

Why are ou limiting to Pentax glass?
Sigma makes some excellent long glass for pentax:
100-300 f4
300mm f2.8
500mm f4.5
50-500 (aka bigma)

All of the above are quality lenses, yes they make some average ones, but they also make some great ones too.

The Sigma 500/f4.5 cost 3 times the price as a Pentax 300f/4 SDM with a 1.7 adapter.
That was my reasoning behind it. The Bigma had 50/50 review. Either u like it or not.
Need a long lens for Bird photography. Just cant puzzle why Pentax does not go bigger in their SDM range for digital SLR's. We are falling behind, BUT I still like my Pentax Cameras :-)

AF speed and long telephotos are the two areas where Pentax clearly trails the rest of the field (Canon, Nikon) at this time. Hopefully things will improve in due course. I suspect the bulk of "professional" sports photographers use Canon or Nikon for this reason.

This said, if you want to remain in the Pentax fold there are many manual focus Pentax primes available on the used market including: SMC Takumar, K, M and A series telephotos. They can be hard to find but they are out there. Focal lengths range from 300mm to over 1000mm in this group with the A* 1200 being the longest as I recall.

If AF is a must there are the F* 600/4, FA* 300/2.8, FA* 300/45., FA* 400/5.6, FA* 600/4 and possibly a few I missed to select from. Check the lens database for further details. These items show up from time to time and can be very expensive but then so is the longer Canon and Nikon glass. You just have to work a little harder to find the Pentax brand.

Cheers

Tom G

And you think a Pentax DA* 500mm f4.5 would be any cheaper?
I would bet on it being more expensive than the Sigma.
