This is fantastic news. For Carl Zeiss to release a range of Pentax mount lenses means their market research has shown that Pentax camera ownership has reached a point where they feel they can produce enough lenses to sell in the Pentax mount and turn a profit.

This is likely to lead to other 3rd party manufacturers increasing the number and type of lenses they provide with a K mount.

Which will in turn lead to greater exposure (pun intended) of the Pentax brand and with luck increased sales, increased profits, more research and development and ultimately more sophisticated camera bodies at the pro level.

As for me I am still very happy with my * ist DS but I can dream.

While I'm happy that Zeiss choose pentax as their next mount to support, Pentax was just like this in the past. Its really too bad they went the way of cost cutting and nerfed the metal body and then the aperture ring all together.

I'm looking at that CZ-PK 50/1.4, and all I can say aside from marvelling at the metal lens, the nice aperture ring, is that this should have been Pentax...right here.

But a big thumbs up to Carl Zeiss. $492 is a bit much but it sets the cap on 1.4 pricing and if the DA*55/1.4 decides to ride above that, forget about the DA* haha.

Great news! Makes me wonder why Pentax discontinued their FA* series - just to let Carl Zeiss snatch the market.

If these lenses do well (or poorly, for that matter), Pentax is sure to notice.

When it comes to macros, manual focus is better, IMO.

Not really more choice, because the Voigtländers are being discontinued as these lenses are released. I believe the same company (Cosina) makes them.
