Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC color fringing

Not sure if this is the right spot for this; if not, moderators please move.

I just purchased the above lens (mail order) and shot just a few test pics. I see definite color fringing that is more than I think appropriate. I see green on the left and red on the right side of high contrast edges. If I were to put on 3D glasses...

Is what I'm seeing in the attached pics typical or did I get a bad copy? I've included both a tight crop and a sized-down version of the original. Thanks in advance for any input.

Tim

From the reviews it appears that the ca control is quite good: Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM (AF Lens) Lens Reviews - Pentax Third-Party Lens Review Database

However, with any lens that wide I wouldn't be discouraged by CA near overexposed edges- that's just diffraction in action .

That's exactly true. Ultra wides exhibit this much more than most other lenses. The DA10-17mm fisheye shows it even more. I don't think you have a bad copy. I've owned this lens, the Sigma 12-24mm as well as the DA12-24mm and all show this to some degree, Although the DA controls fringing better than the others.

the color fringing is actually latteral CA, where purple is on one side and green on the other, in out of focus regions.

I have not seen this on my copy, but that does not mean it isnot there.

I have been very pleased overall with my copy of this lens, which I have had now for 5 years

This is normal for the Sigma 10-20 in high contrast lighting which is worst at the edges. It's easily corrected if you shoot RAW.

Thanks, Ndever had anything quite this wide before. Wasn't sure if what I'm seeing was typical or not.
