anyone have a photo compairison or a link to one? would love to see it. It is being discussed on another board that I frequent but everyone either has one or the other... no one has both to do a compairison!

Somehow I knew someon on here would have both

The SMC 55 1.8 lost in the first round to the Fujinon 55 1.8

The Auto-Tak 55 1.8 lost in the first round to the SMC 50 1.4

The SMC 55 2 lost to the Pentax-F 50 1.7 in the first round.

The Super Tak 50 1.4 lost to the SMC Tak 50 1.4 in the first round.
The SMC Tak 50 1.4 lost to the SMC Pentax 50 1.2 in the finals.

More information is needed. Are you talking about Pentax lenses? If so, Pentax never made a 50mm f1.8 lens. There were several models of Takumar lenses that were 55mm f1.8 and have similar optical lay out as the M, A, F and FA 50mm f1.7 lenses. As far as 50mm f1.4 lenses go, there were 2 basic layouts for the Super Taks with the later one being shared with the S-M-C, SMC and k mount models. That is excluding coatings differences of course.

That's not the 8-element model Super Tak 50mm/1.4 in that shootout and the Auto Tak is actually the "Super Tak type" with the reverse operating aperture ring.

Blue, I hadnt even thought to ask for certain brand names. This other group I frequent is a mix of camera brands and I may be the lone Pentax in the bunch. I knew however you all would be able to provide me with the info I needed to cure my curiosity
