DA* 300mm

Hi.
I just received a used da*300, and I have one question. It's got a very small movement in the focus ring (up and down, if I move it with my finger.). Probably less then a millimeter, but enough to make a small click. Is that normal? Just seems a bit odd on an otherwise solid lens. I mean my da 55-300 is tight as can be but obviously have a cheaper build.

Thanks

Sounds like a defect to me, unfortunately.

I used to own the DA*300 and noticed the same thing. I started a thread about it earlier this year and another user confirmed that his copy did the same thing. I also briefly owned a second copy of the lens later this past spring and noticed the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's actually normal.

I've never noticed it until now but, yeah, mine has that-- but ever so slight. I think it's a really good copy so I'm inclined to think it's normal and no problem.

Mine had the same kind of play also, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Skog,

If your lens is performing the way you expected it to, I wouldn't worry about that much.
As some previous members mentioned, there is indeed a very, very, very tiny such "click" in mine as well ... curiously I even never nocticed it until I read your opening post!
I use mine a LOT and never had problems with it.

Cheers.

Thanks guys/gals, you really eased my mind now! Adam's first reply almost gave me a heart attack!

I'm sure everything is ok then. The lens seems perfect except some paint loss on the tripod foot.

I have been interested in this lens for birds in flight. If you don't mind me asking. What is a used da* selling for?
Where did you find a used lens?
Thanks

I called the tech guys at the Norwegian Pentax import, and they had the same play on theirs as well. I still think it feels odd though.

That said, I cant wait for some better weather to test it out more! It looks monumental on my k-x hehe
