Did Pentax really make a clear lens?

Is this for real?
Pentax AF 35-70/3.5/4.5 Transparent Model ...... Rare - eBay (item 370306950886 end time Sep-10-10 19:02:00 PDT)
A rare F-series transparent lens on eBay, I'm wondering about the history on this. Do you know more about it?

Apparently they did...but I'm sure that this was only produced as a demo item to who off Pentax's (at the time) new AF system.

Yes, this is the real thing. Pentax has a large track record of producing transparent cameras for shows and shop displays, right down to the Spotmatic.

In this case it was the standard lens of the transparent SFX. Photo from Bojidar Dimitrov:

Me too, but it looks like it would be difficult to read the set aperture on the ring.

I saw one of these at the Pentax store in Tokyo.

I wonder if the lens leaks any light.

Ned Bunnell did a piece on a transparent PZ-1 with the F35-70 on his blog.

He took the pics for the piece with his D-Lux 4, which resulted in a bit of a backlash (but also helped me remember the blog!)...

Yep, rumor has it all the cameras on the Starship Enterprise have Pentax CCTV lenses on them. High quality is needed when you're backing up a spaceship that big into the space station.
