I'm looking to upgrade to two fast zooms and am having a little trouble deciding which way to go. The two focal length options I have in mind are:

18-50 f2.8 and 50-150 f2.8/50-135 f2.8

or

24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8


The lenses will probably be third party such as Sigma or Tamron. I'd prefer the smaller size lenses of the first group, but I'm concerned I'd be changing lenses more than I'd have to with a 24-70 f2.8. I'm not too worried about the wide end of the 18-50.

These will be going on a K7.


Just looking for suggestions and other points of view.

Depending on how important this f/2.8 would be for you, the DA17-70/4 would make lots of sense to me if I were in the market for a good IQ lens that covers most opportunities. 17-24mm would be more important to me than the extra stop, I think. But I agree with you, the times I've been using my kit lens, I found the 50 or 55mm often a bit on the wide side, so I'd switch to the longer lens quite often.

Tamron 17-50 2.8 and a Tamron/Sigma 70-200 2.8 combo? - you could get those two for $1200 easy, even less used

I don't think you'd ever not be able to take a step to two forward or back to fill the gap between 50 and 70
