The F2.4 really will give plenty of DOF control in most situations, just not as much.
Can we ever have enough DoF control?
For some, the answer will be no. And if by some miracle an f/1.0 Pentax lens makes it on the market there will still be some who will be disappointed that it wasn't f/0.9

I know there's a difference between f/1.4 and f/2.4
I'd like to see what real life difference in intended real-liferesults the difference makes to the artist; examples where shooting at f/1.4 produces a significantly aesthetically more pleasing result in any 35mm shot than the same one at f/2.4
Bear in mind, that bokeh will be different between an f/1.4 lens shooting at f/2.4 and an f/2.4 lens shooting at f/2.4...

Just a thought...

No, it shows how sloooow the lens really is on APS-C. It's a prime for Pete's sake.

Since it isnt' WR and hasn't got quickshift either, the only point in its favour is the size. I hope it works for some; I think an affordable FA50/1.4 was a better way to make people buy further primes.
The FA 35/2, FA 50/1.4 did not have quick-shift either. On top of that, the mf focus ring is relatively skinny. Furthermore, the FA 50/1.4 is still in production.

I thought I read the FA 50/1.4 is no longer being produced. It's still stocked, but the production runs are done.

FA50/1.4 is hard to find in shops already.

It has been readily available from Pentax Imaging, Adorama and BH since the price increase. That was after they were out of stocks and the rumors were that it was discontinued. It maybe out of production, but I haven't seen an official statement from Pentax as such. It is selling for $359 shipped from BH. On a side note, Pentax made a production run of A 50mm/1.2 at the Vietnam plant either late last year or earlier this year also.

FA 50mm f/1.4 is still on sale the last time I checked with my local Pentax agent.

I don't think the FA 50 will be in this particular lens's price range. For whatever reason, all of the 50mm f1.4 lenses have gone up in price to about 350 dollars. I am sure that it doesn't cost that much to produce them. I guess rather than releasing a cheap version of the 50mm 1.7 or 50mm f2, Pentax decided to release a cheap version of the FA 35.

Are there any more accurate release dates for this lens than "mid October"?

And do you get discount if combined with a K-r?

For sure here in Japan you should be able to get colored version, but probably like all non-standard kit colors only from the Pentax site... (= at premium price)

Isn't this a pink / blue / green / whatever color kit lens to match the K-r? I expect it is a novelty lens...not something someone would buy other than being part of a beginners kit.

I was at the Photokina. I will buy a Pentax K-5 and definitely a DA35 F2.4

It performs quite decent is compact and light weight. Of course it does not feel like a limited, but it is quite a bargain compared to a limited.

I was pleasantly surprised! To me it could be a novelity lens for primes, but to me it is more than that - an affordable normal prime that is tack sharp wide open with a decent bokeh

Thanks for the test shot vespats, now I can definitely say +1 sale for Pentax, which is something they never get from me!
