Would a SIGMA non-DG lens be a problem in a K20D?

There is a friend of mine selling a Sigma 170-500mm non-DG lens.
We are in different countries, so I cannot test it and if possible, will try to avoid moving it from one place to another.
Since DG lenses are optimized for digital cameras, I was wondering if it will be a problem to use this non-DG lens in my K20D.
What would be the negative points in the actual pictures?
Is this DG marking a real thing or is it just marketing?

Thnx!

There wouldn't really be a problem. DG just means "optimized for digital, full-frame supported", so you should be fine when using a regular sigma lens, as there really isn't much of a distinction.

Check this lens database for more details: Sigma Lenses - Pentax Third-Party Lens Review Database

I think there are Pentax users with either Sigma DG or Pentax FA lenses with the hope one day, FF will be a reality.

Then again, they could go the 645D route which uses larger then FF sensor if i remember correctly or go back to using film.

No problem. I use a non-DG Sigma for 90% of my photos on my K-7, and also did on my K20D. Of course you may still get some fringing on high contrast areas, maybe a bit worse than a DG lens, but for me that happens about one photo out of every 1000.
