2x teleconverter for Tamron SP 500mm....

Probably also use the converter with my other lenses. All of the lenses i have except the 18-55 kit lens and my 500mm tamron SP have an aperture ring, i dont need autofocus.

What brand teleconverter should i look for? I imagine that it would be cheaper than teleconverters that have autofocus and aperture contacts.

Note that the Tamron SP 500 is compatible with teleconverter 01F.

For K-mount teleconverters, check this forum's lens review section.

ok..... yeah, all of the teleconverters in the reviews are way to expensive, i'm seeing some Tokina and some other teleconverters on ebay going for anywhere from 30-60 dollars.

Theres a Buy it Now for a Tokina RMC Doubler for 38 dollars, is that worth it? Or am i limited to spending 100+ dollars on a teleconverter?

Presuming that your SP 500 is the Adaptall type, your best bet is to find the Adaptall-2 2X TC (01F) made for that lens. One just sold for about $25 on eBay and they're often available for about that price.

You won't be able to use it on non-Adaptall lenses but it will assure you of reasonable results with that lens.

I also recommend the 01F Adaptall SP 2x TC.
Here is a shot of the moon taken with the Tamron SP 500mm Mirror and SP 2x TC

Also, the TC is 64.5mm in diameter so you can get an inexpensive tripod collar made for Canon 70-200 f/4 and it fits nicely on the TC for better balance

Mark down my vote for the Adaptall converter as well. You won't be able to use it with your other lenses but for the 500, I believe it to be your best bet.

When it comes to other teleconverters, unless you're prepared to spend some cash, they pretty much all suck and grossly degrade image quality on what are otherwise good lenses. There are a couple exceptions of course. Sorry, couldn't put it any gentler than that. One that Does come to mind is the Tamron PK/A-PZ 2x (I think that's what it's called, I'd have to dig mine out to see). I've put that one on my DA*300 and it did a pretty decent job and can be had (last I checked) for under $90. The only other one I would readily recommend (for inexpensive options) is the Vivitar 2x Macro Focusing converter and that would only be for it's macro capability. As a regular 2x TC, it's less than impressive.
